the cloche hat was originally designed in the early 1900's but became increasingly popular during the 1920's. named “cloche” after the french word for bell, due to its initial bell shape, the reputation of this hat was evident in the fact that it even influenced women's hairstyles of that time. women started wearing their hair in a short, slicked down fashion as to better showcase the specific shape of the hat.
